Following a review by NHS Canterbury and Coastal Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) the contract for the unit, which is currently held by South East Health Ltd, will be offered to tender this week (12 July).
Following uncertainty over the future of the unit in 2012, the contract was originally extended in September 2012 to allow the CCG time to consider how best to plan this service.
The Minor Injury Unit (MIU), located at Faversham Cottage Hospital, is open 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm and provides treatment for a range of minor conditions such as cuts and bruises, strains and sprains, and minor head injuries.
The invitation to tender will close late August with the expectation that the provider will be announced in October.
